Kathleen Smith Andersen, 67, of Bluffton, SC passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 at her home after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Kathleen was born November 27, 1953 in Norwich, CT to the late Paul King Smith and Olive Daryl Linton Smith. She completed her undergraduate studies at Connecticut College before going on to receive her Master’s in Business at the University of Connecticut. Kathleen later earned her Master’s in Education at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She then worked as an 8th grade social studies teacher for 16 years. She took great pride in being a life-long, active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.
Kathleen and her husband of 36 years, William A. Andersen, III, lived in Maryland for 30 years, traveling with their children to Hilton Head Island, SC for vacation—sometimes twice a year. They knew it would one day be their home. Kathleen’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, when she’d cook a feast for her family and friends. She was a wonderful entertainer, loved spending time in the kitchen, and was an avid foodie.
In addition to her husband, Kathleen is survived by her son, Christian Smith Andersen (Brittany) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Sydney Andersen Rapp (Adam) of Frederick, MD; step-son, William Andersen, IV of Rocky Mount, NC; brothers, Dr. Timothy K. Smith of Lisbon, CT and Jeffrey P. Smith (Mary) of Canterbury, CT; and one grandchild, Paul Edward Andersen.
