Kenneth McElroy, Jr. Obituary

Kenneth Louis McElroy Jr. of Bluffton, SC passed away on 7/25/2020 at age 79, after a strong battle against Prostate/Bone cancer, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Born August 28th 1940 in Washington DC, he was the son of Mary Louise McElroy and Kenneth L McElroy, Sr. 

He lived in Washington D.C./Maryland in his early years and at retirement moved to Clearwater, FL then relocating to Bluffton, South Carolina in October, 2007.

He was an exemplary public servant. He started his career in the Washington D.C. government and also served as a National Guardsman. He entered the Federal government and worked for the Food and Drug Administration, Housing and Urban Development, but mainly in the Department of Justice. He retired with honors, including the Attorney General’s award, from the Department of Justice, with 39 years of Federal Service.

He had a warm smile and always a hug to share. He approached life with a “Really Great” attitude and his positive nature inspired the best in those around him.

He was an active member of the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Deacon, and Clerk of Session in Clearwater, FL; and a regular attendee of Low Country Presbyterian Church, Bluffton, SC. He spent the last decade enjoying retirement in Sun City / Hilton Head, SC.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Dottie) King McElroy, and her son, Michael James Hammer, and wife, Kelly, and grand-daughter, Marissa, of Davidsonville, MD; Ken’s daughter, Tina Marie Steblein, and her husband, Paul, and grandchildren, Savannah Marie and Jacob Paul Steblein, of Fairfax, VA; and, like a sister, Edie Wilson, and husband, Bunky, of Waugh Chapel, MD.
