Leonard Marino, 87, died peacefully in his home May 13th, 2020 surrounded by family. He was born March 10, 1933 in Chicago, the son of John and Mary Marino. He is survived by his children, Michael (Almut), Lisa ( Steve) Surette, David (Jenny). Grandfather of Settimio, Joshua, Emily, Kimberly, Sydney, Jacob, Lee, David and Seppi, great-grandfather to seven, and his dear friend Adrienne. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rocco, sister Rose, wives Jaqueline (Forke) and Mary (Peggy Crutchfield).
He graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, Illinois and obtained a degree in marketing from the University of Illinois. He served in the US Navy and retired from Angelica uniform company in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was an avid golfer and friend to many. “Lenny” enjoyed the weekly get-togethers with his friends in Rose Hill. He loved his family and grandchildren, Jeopardy, taco night and his Chicago Bears. The way he died is just like he lived: he wrote his own rules, and he paved his own way. If you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he could.
“That man is a success – who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his task. who leaves the world better than he found it, who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it, who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.” – Unknown
A Celebration of Life will be held in October, 2020. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution in Len’s memory might consider a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project.
