Margaret “Margie” Joyce Risher, age 51, passed away in the early morning of December 19th. She is survived by her husband Johnny Green, her mother Elizabeth “Beth” Zimmerman, her sister Sandra Weaver and her children Christopher Westman, Andrew Gross, Joey Marier and Sarah Borrink.
Margie was a Writer, Criminologist, Chemist, Biologist, Mother, Grandma, Cook, Gamer and a Survivor! A spinal degradation from a previous spinal injury put her in a wheelchair when she was in her 40’s. She was later diagnosed with COPD and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), AKA Lou Gehrig's Disease but she refused to allow her illnesses or disability limit her.
Margie was academically published twice with Dr. Whaley as an undergraduate. She loved her time as Dr Whaley’s research assistant and teaching nursing students chemistry for three years as an undergraduate. She earned a Bachlor’s Degree in Chemistry interdisciplinary with Biology. She went on to complete her Master’s degree of Criminal Justice with nineteen masters hours of Experimental Psychology.
Margie was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) Her time spent with friends in the Society were instrumental her life and formed some of her fondest memories
She was not done living. She was contemplating working on her doctorate once her health improved. She authored "Living and Cooking with Type 2 Diabetes" 'You Can Have Your Cake and Eat It Too' which is still in fact checking before publication. She was also in the process of writing fantasy/sci-fi with her son.
She loved and was grateful for her God, family, friends, life, music, writing, reading and combative sports. Her sobriety came first, without it she would have none of the things she loved. For her giving up was never an option! She may not have been rich, but her life was a life worth living.
“Honor is that gift you give yourself that no one can take away.”
