Marion Eugene Carter, 71, passed away at Hilton Head Hospital, Friday, April 7th. Born January 14th, 1952, Marion spent his childhood and most of his working life at Hilton Head. As a child, his grandparents, Inez & Grover Shealy helped raise Marion. He loved to go with his grandfather and uncle to set rabbit traps and then go back in the afternoon to check them, to see if they had caught anything. He also loved to fish. After high school he ventured out and for about 10 years, worked as a fishing boat deckhand in Miami and New Orleans. When he returned to the island, he worked in various pizza restaurants, one of them being a back in the day island icon, Sharky’s Pizza. He also liked his social media, as he had reconnected with some of his long-time school friends.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Inez & Grover Shealy, mother & stepfather, Gladys & Warren Gordon, uncle, Ronald W. Canada, brother, Michael S. McKinley, and sister, Sherry M. McKinley. He leaves behind a brother, Jerome Stevens McKinley (wife Lea), his sisters, Susan Ann McKinley & Rebecca M. Turcotte, a niece Carie Ayn Tobias, and several grand nieces and a grandnephew.
His wishes were for no service. If you wish to honor his name, please donate to the American Diabetes Association or any local home health agency. Hold your loved ones tighter and longer, show your love more often.
