Marjorie Grant Powers, 90, of Ridgeland, South Carolina passed away peacefully on October 29, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Marjorie was born on November 21, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to Mildred Emma Blizzard and George Curtis Grant. After a brief course of study at the University of Akron, Marjorie relocated to Washington, D.C., where she served as a ticket agent for Capital Airlines and was sometimes tasked with helping a glamorous movie star or important U.S. senator to catch a flight at the very last second.
In 1964, Marjorie married Richard Edward Powers (born in 1931), a U.S. Army veteran and geologist from Minnesota who had recently started a career in photogrammetry and aerial surveying. Together, Marjorie and Richard started a family that would include a daughter, Alicia Grant Powers (born in 1964), and a son, Eric Edward Powers (born in 1967). After relocating several times in the United States and spending a few years stationed in Cairo, Egypt, Marjorie and Richard retired together to Bluffton, South Carolina in 1998. Richard passed away in 2013.
Marjorie enjoyed collecting antique furniture and dinnerware, cooking and baking, listening to opera on vintage vinyl records, supporting local professional baseball teams, and corresponding with all the close friends she had made over the years and in many different parts of the world. Marjorie will be dearly missed and always remembered.
