On May 21, 2023, Mark Allan Larson passed away after a short illness at the age of 74. Mark was born on June 24, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the son of Dr. Owen E Larson and Alice M Larson (née Ulmen).
He grew up in Clintonville and Neenah, Wisconsin. While playing football at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, he met the love of his life, Linda. Together they lived in the United States and Switzerland and most recently Bluffton, SC (Move #18).
Mark would have described himself as the “financial guy for multinational consumer goods companies - drugs, candy, spirits & wine”. He retired from the wine industry in 2002 at the age of 52. After honing his golf skills - having played on 6 of the 7 continents, he and Linda found their love of boating. Together in 2013 they started the America’s Great Loop, circumnavigating the eastern half of the United States and part of Canada. They completed the “Loop” in 2016. Through boating, Mark and Linda became involved in the United States Power Squadron (America’s Boating Club). Mark served as Executive Officer, Instructor and Commander of the Hilton Head Squadron. He then became Executive Officer of the South Carolina/Coastal Georgia Power Squadron District and then, most recently and briefly, Commander of that District.
Although he had a true love of the water, those close to him know that Mark’s first love was the Green Bay Packers.
Mark is survived by his wife, Linda Larson (née Wohlschlaeger), son Craig A Larson, daughter Emily Prescott (Mike) and grandson Luke A Larson. He is also survived by siblings Mary Beth Dennis (Tom), Richard Larson (Sue), Scott Larson, James Larson (Peggy), Ann Ostrowski (Michael), Therese Masnado (Bob), Amy Larson (Kelly) and cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Matthew and brother Jeffrey.
In keeping with Mark’s wishes, there will be no services or celebration of life. For those wanting to celebrate Mark, please make a toast with his favorite libation, Jack Daniels. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
