Mary P Santarcangelo, 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 6 after a long and brave battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Domenick “Nick” Santarcangelo. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 10, 1938. She is pre-deceased by her parents William and Mary and a brother Joseph. She is a loving mother to 7 children, grandmother to 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She loved her family fiercely and they loved her back just as much.
Mary spent her life working hard to provide for her family, often working multiple jobs. She was employed in the NYC school system as an aide, worked as a waitress catering parties to celebrities and other notables. At the same time, helped to run a party supply and catering business with her husband Nick. She and Nick retired to Sun City, Bluffton, SC in 2005 to enjoy the next stage of life. There, she met many new friends with whom she had wonderful loving relationships with and who will miss her dearly.
Mary loved the beach anywhere, walking laps in the pool, entertaining and traveling. She enjoyed cuisine from every part of the world, and was an accomplished cook.
Most of all she loved her family and the joy they brought her. She made frequent trips back to New York to spend time with her beloved kids and grandchildren. Her children, their spouses, and grandchildren were her joy, and she was theirs. They will forever miss her warm hugs and squeezes, her delicious cooking, birthday text updates and off-key birthday singing, and most especially hearing “I love you more”. Mary was the strength and glue of her family. May she rest in peace and continue to watch over all of them as she did her entire life.
