Mary Wertz Sauer

Mary Wertz Sauer was born on December 8, 1926, to John D. Wertz and Annie Mae Wertz in Saluda, SC. In 1946, Mrs. Sauer was married to Robert (Bob) Sauer from Fessenden, North Dakota. They remained married for 67 years until his passing in 2013.

The Sauers made their home in Saluda until 1969. They moved to Columbia, SC. where Mary was an avid gardener and homemaker while Bob pursued a career as a hypnotherapist. They moved to Ridgeland in 2010 to be near their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She passed at home in Ridgeland, SC on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.  Mrs. Sauer is survived by her son Nevin Sauer (Susan) of Ridgeland and her daughter Eve Bryan of Hilton Head, grandchildren Alicia and Ricci, great-grandchildren Jordan, Dylan, Logan, Lillian, Nicky, and Nevaeh.

She was predeceased by 3 siblings” Kathryn Wertz Parks of Edgefield, SC; Mr. David Wertz of Columbia, SC; and Ms. Patsy Ann Wertz also of Columbia. Prior to moving to Ridgeland, they lived in Columbia for many years and were members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

A date for a memorial service in Columbia will be announced later.
