Obituary
Maryann Shepler Mercier passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Coastal Carolina Hospital. She had been battling cancer for several months.
Maryann was born March 8, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the child of Hazel May Ashton Shepler and Edward Emmel Shepler. Maryann was raised in Dormont, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh and attended Dormont Senior High. She worked as a homemaker, in sales and management, but her true love and passion was cooking and baking. She ran a cake baking company in the Washington, DC suburbs during the 1970’s, and later a catering company. She owned and operated a restaurant in Bremerton, WA, in the 1980’s and 90’s. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties, and her children and grandchildren will all miss her annual Christmas cookie packages.
Maryann is survived by her husband of 38 years, Joseph Mercier, her brother William Dimmock, her children from a previous marriage, Virginia Bazis, John Jeffrey Bazis, and Judith Bazis. Also grieving will be Maryann’s six grandchildren, Kelly Wiley Pritt, Andrew Wiley, Julianne Wiley, Sasha Patil, Melinda Bazis, and Arden Hendrickson.
