Melvin Klein Obituary

Melvin Klein passed peacefully January 29th with his loving family around him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Sandy Klein, his children Marjie Seras, husband Howie, Patty DeMaria, husband David, Richard Klein, partner Theresa Sladek and his grandchildren Lindsay DeMaria, Jake DeMaria, Carolyn Seras, Marc Seras, Hannah Klein and Levi Klein.

Mel loved sports as a participant and spectator. A lifelong tennis player, he was keenly competitive and amassed numerous tennis trophies which he proudly displayed until his wife decided it was too much and he needed to declutter and reduce the collection. His impressive hand/eye coordination also made him a formidable player on the ping pong table, and he would even practice his skills with a table tennis ball machine. Mel took up golf later in life and enjoyed playing with his wife and other family members. At the age of 93 he had the thrill of a lifetime when he made a hole in one at Argent Lakes Golf Course in Sun City.

Mel loved to spend time relaxing in the sunshine by a pool or the beach while listening to his radio, and he and Sandy always had their beach chairs at the ready wherever they happen to be. Not a fan of the healthy eating food pyramid Mel did always enjoy bananas and grapes, but he had an insatiable sweet tooth. Seven-layer chocolate cake and ice cream were his favorites, and he would always be running out to the store to get a Suzy Q snack cake or a Hostess fruit pie.

Mel had a wonderful way of telling a story and a good sense of humor. Watching The Three Stooges always put a smile on his face. Another way to make Mel happy was to be involved with a good controversy. When faced with a problem or an injustice, Mel was relentless in gathering research and making phone calls to get a matter resolved.

Melvin Klein had a long, happy, healthy life and lived it on his own terms. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and we are all so lucky to have been able to share our lives with him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mel’s name to:  Inner City Tennis
