Miriam Smith Obituary

Miriam Ellis Smith, daughter of the late Albert Nathaniel and Annie Ivey Ellis of Tillman, SC passed away October 10, 2021. She was born September 30, 1932 in Tillman, SC. She was a member of Tillman Methodist Church and was a graduate pf Armstrong College in Savannah Georgia.  She graduated from Warren A. Candler Hospital Nursing School September 12, 1953, where she worked as the afternoon supervisor for seven years, and then worked for years at Estill Convalescent Center  in Estill, South Carolina.   She was truly dedicated to her nursing profession and to her patients, and enjoyed every minute of her career.  She is survived by her daughter Mona Marie Smith Race (Ken) and grandson Justin Kenneth Race (Taylor) of Kennesaw, Georgia.

She was predeceased in death by her husband George (Buck) Smith of Tillman, and brothers Abbie Ellis of Atlanta and Wallace Ellis of Brunswick, Georgia.  She was a dedicated loving nurse who was known for doing favors for her patients when they wanted or needed something.  She loved them all and they all loved her.

After her husband passed away she moved to Kennesaw, Georgia to live with her daughter Mona and her family for 18 years.  She always took care of her grandson, Justin when he was growing up and later as she aged we took care of her.  Mama you were such a blessing to all of us, and will be missed beyond.  We love you so much!

A graveside service will be held at Tillman Methodist Church Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11:00 am.
