Nancy Peffley Obituary

Nancy Ann Peffley passed away on May 6th, 2021 at the age of 76.

Nancy was born on September 22nd, 1944 to Robert and Charlotte (Olha) Tiernan in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  She attended Notre Dame High School. After high school, Nancy took temporary vows for the Daughters of Charity.

Nancy later attended the University of Bridgeport and Columbia University where she worked towards a Masters of Social Work.  Nancy spent her business career in human resources and sales management in the New York and Connecticut areas.  She worked for major corporations like Xerox, Exxon, and the Marlin Company, from which she retired in 2003.

During her work at Exxon, Nancy met Kenneth Peffley and the two married on February 14th 1982.

Nancy became a stepmother to Ken's children, Andrea Cirranello (husband Anthony) (Florida) and Timothy Peffley (wife Tara) (Pennsylvania).  After retirement, Nancy and Ken relocated from Stratford Connecticut, where they had lived for more than 20 years, to Bluffton, South Carolina.

Nancy was active in the Roman Catholic Church throughout her life, from her service with the Daughters of Charity to her most recent participation as a lector, usher, and mass coordinator at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, SC.

She and her husband Ken traveled widely, visiting Panama, Spain, France, and China, Ireland, Baltics countries and Russia.  They also lived briefly in Puerto Rico.

Nancy enjoyed playing bridge, watching Korean dramas, and cheering on the UConn women's basketball team.  She was an accomplished Scrabble player, and, like her parents before her, a Mets fan.

But it was Nancy's warm personality, bright outlook, and genuine interest in other people that endeared her to her friends and family. Nancy maintained close friendships over years and across miles.  Her spirited laugh was uplifting and infectious.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Kathleen (Tiernan) Filo.

In addition to her husband and stepchildren and their spouses she is survived by her grandchildren Sarah, John, Ben, and Logan; her nieces and nephews, with whom she was especially close, Robert, Colleen, Mary and Kevin; and their spouses and children.

The Memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday May 26th at 10:30 am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country (https://hospicecarelc.org/donate/ ) or by calling 843-706-2296.

Nancy will be cremated at Sauls Funeral Home.  There is no viewing or visitation.
