Nancy Jane Serene

Our beloved Nancy Jane Flick Serene, age 71, passed on to her Savior's arms in her home on Sunday, April 13th, after a courageous battle with ALS. There will be a service celebrating her life on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:00 AM at Grace Coastal Church in Okatie, SC. Born October 20, 1942, in Fenelton, PA, Nancy graduated in 1960 from Worthington-West Franklin High School. Having already fashioned a successful career as a finance director of not-for-profit organizations (most notably as VP of Finance for the Tampa YMCA), she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Tampa, then earned her CPA credentials. She retired from Rowland Park Country School in Baltimore, MD. Nancy was a woman of strong Christian faith and love for God, for her husband of 51 years, Don Terry Serene, and for her three children and family. She was a member of Grace Coastal Church. She traveled and lived in many places as an active partner in a military family, and was most recently a resident of the Sun City Whispering Oaks community, where she treasured the great friends she and Don have made. She was the daughter of the late Arthur H. Flick and the late Verna Pearl Bauer Flick; the sister of Agnes Curfman (Ned), Robert Flick (Annie), the late David Flick (Beverly), Timothy Flick (Diane) and Stephen Flick (Beth); mother to Terri Serene of Ashburn, VA, Connie Serene Shiplett (Edward) of Mebane, NC, and Thomas Serene of Napa, CA; and grandmother to Lauren Shiplett and Matthew Shiplett. She loved and enjoyed numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins. If ever a soul was born who lived to share the Hope within her, may she now hear "Well done." She has slipped the surly bonds of earth, put out her hand and touched the face of God. There will be a service celebrating her life on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:00 AM at Grace Coastal Church in Okatie, SC.
