Nicholas (Nick) Oxendine Obituary

Nicholas Murphy Oxendine (Nick) 71, died unexpectedly, November 17, 2021 at Memorial University Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He was born January 27, 1952, in Fairmont, North Carolina, the son of Lacey Oxendine and Mattie Lou Sanders (Howell).

Nick graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1970. He worked for Sears in Jacksonville before joining the Coast Guard in 1972. Nick served for 23 years, and finished his career as Chief Gunner Mate in 1995. He married Linda Ann Benton of Brunson, South Carolina on December 2, 1973. After retirement from the Coast Guard they settled in Brunson, South Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Clay Howell. Surviving in addition to his wife Linda are his sister Madeleine Carrol Howell Ledford of Tallahassee, FL and brother Steven Lacey Howell of McKinney, TX.  Sister in laws Alma Edwards of Savannah GA and Margaret Boutwell of Brunson, SC, Liz Mason of Rincon, GA and brother in law Bartow Benton of Walterboro, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, December 1st at Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, 90 Simmonsville Road Bluffton, SC 29910 Tel: 1-843-815-5535, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 2:00 pm,  Thursday December 2nd in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
