Paul Nicholas Brophy, 70 years old, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on May 3rd, 2023, while doing what he loved most, tinkering around in the garage at his home, a place where he found joy and solace.
Paul, born on September 2nd, 1952, to John and Eileen Brophy, grew up in Freeport, Long Island, with his five siblings. He was a devoted husband to Kathleen Mirin for 38 years and was a loving father to five children, Michael, Ryan, Sean, Colin, and Samantha. He was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob, Jack, Madelyn, Thomas, Annabelle, and Henry Brophy. He was the second youngest of 6 children, all boys, Jack, Robert, Clifford, Thomas, and Bart Brophy. Paul was married to Toni Viola, with whom he had two sons, Michael, and Ryan. After their marriage ended, Toni remarried to Bob McPherson became a beloved member of Paul’s family, always attending birthday parties and spending holidays together. Needless to say, Paul was a great family man.
Paul was a hardworking and dedicated arborist self-proclaimed as the Lowcountry’s Finest Tree Surgeon, having spent over 40 years in his field, 20 years on Long Island at Eastern Tree Care with his brothers and over 20 years in the Lowcountry as owner of Southern Tree Care. He was widely respected and admired by his colleagues and clients alike for his exceptional expertise, meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to work.
In his free time, Paul cherished spending quality time with his loved ones, listening to music, reading, completing puzzles, spending time in nature, playing racquetball, coaching his children’s soccer teams, listening to the rain and he found great pleasure working in his garage. Paul was known for his sense of humor, always trying to create new jokes with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he loved cooking and feeding others and greatly enjoyed making morning breakfast sandwiches for his family whenever he had a chance. He enjoyed rolling and smoking the occasional joint.
Those who knew Paul will remember him for his kind and compassionate nature, caring heart, and his unwavering devotion to his family. He was known to be curious, asking any question to anyone. He was known for his endless patience, selfless generosity, and altruism making him an exceptional father to not only his own children but to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry on Sunday May 7th, 2023, at 4pm in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul's memory to Meal Train https://mealtrain.com/6vm96q.
