Phyllis Dickes, age 90 passed away June 2, 2022. She was born on May 31, 1932 to Avery and Hazel (Phillips) Justus in Columbus, Ohio. Her family moved to Springfield, Ohio in 1945. Phyllis graduated from Springfield High School and Springfield Hospital School of Nursing. She married Don Dickes on September 12, 1953. After living in Anchorage, Alaska during Don’s tour of duty in the Army they lived in Canton, Ohio and Uniontown, Ohio until moving to Hilton Head, South Carolina in 2016.
Phyllis was employed as a Registered Nurse in various health care fields. Phyllis was an active volunteer in the community including Community Christmas, Questers Club, Animal Attic, Canton Symphony League and many more. She sang in her church choir and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church’s Women’s Circle.
Phyllis was an avid bird watcher, an experienced gardener and expert seamstress. Phyllis and Don enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad, often with her sister and brother-in-law. Most of all she loved caring for her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Bill Leffel. She is survived by her daughters, Denise (Harry) MacNealy and Wendy Dickes; granddaughters, Chelsea (Tim) Foley and Courtney (John) Huber- MacNealy; great-grandchildren, Eva and Mae Foley and Rory Huber-MacNealy; sister Joyce (Ed) Pitt and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.
