Raymond "Max" Clements

If you looked up “self-made man” in Wikipedia, it should show Raymond “Max” Clements pictured as a prime example.  He came from very humble beginnings, raised in the back hills of Tennessee.  He knew early on he wanted more for himself than farm life, and he not only set out to get it, he surpassed many people’s expectations.  After a short time served in the army, he moved to Michigan where his older brother had found work on Detroit’s bustling automotive assembly line.  Max opted for a desk job with a small trucking company, and that was the beginning of a very long and lucrative career.  It was also there he would meet his wife of 60 years, Carol, who would not only support his endeavors, but help contribute to his success.

Over a 40+ year period, he went from dispatcher/clerk into sales, and from there didn’t stop until he made VP of Automotive Sales with different companies including JB Hunt, one of the industry’s largest carriers.  Traveling throughout the US and internationally, he made many good friends and impressions along the way.  Max & Carol formally retired to Sun City Hilton Head the fall of 2003, where they lived longer and happier than anywhere else his career had taken them.  He will be sorely missed by his loving wife and daughters, Kelly & Kim, and also surviving family members and friends around the globe. Max will always be remembered for his quick wit, impeccable taste, numerous artistic talents, and big heart.

A memorial will take place on Saturday, January 29th at 11:30am at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC.
