Renee Charron Sobania

Renee Sobania (Charron) passed away peacefully on March 14, 2021. Born on August 19, 1934 to Maurice and Celine Charron. She was the youngest of 6 children, all who have gone before her. Renee was raised in the beautiful Loire region of France, in the small town of Flere-la-Riviere sur Chatillon. She met her husband, American Air Force man, Orazio Ross Sobania at the American Air Force base in Châteauroux, France where she was employed. The two quickly fell in love and were married on July 5, 1956. After Ross’s military discharge they moved to his hometown of Monterey, California in 1960. In search of better career opportunities, they soon moved to San Jose, California where they raised their two amazing daughters Chantal and Sylvia. The Sobania family enjoyed years of camping, water-skiing, traveling, and fun!

Once their children were grown, they moved to the town of Gilroy, California and later up north to Lake Shastina, California, where they enjoyed golfing and the beautiful outdoors. After spending many years there, the two relocated to Canton, Georgia and finally to Ridgeland, South Carolina where the memories continued. Renee loved spending time with her family, especially spoiling her precious grandchildren and great-granchildren.

She is survived by her beloved family: husband of 65 years Orazio Ross Sobania; daughter Chantal Chiapetto (Sobania); son-in-laws Steven Chiapetto and Ronald Mancuso; grandchildren Kristin and Joey Page, Lauren and Matthew Heldreth, Christopher and Ali Mancuso, Danielle Chiapetto; and great-grandchildren Brooks Heldreth and Madeline Mancuso. She was predeceased by her younger daughter, Sylvia Mancuso (Sobania) who died of Ovarian Cancer in February 2018.

Her legacy will live on through the lives she forever touched. Renee’s family is deeply saddened by her death and though she will be greatly missed, we know that she is peacefully reunited in Heaven with her daughter and watching over us. Until we see you again Meme, we love you dearly.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, South Carolina. She will be laid to rest at the Low Country Memorial Gardens in Bluffton, South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Renee’s name to her parish, Saint Gregory the Great in Bluffton South Carolina.
