Richard "Rick" Anthony Norris

Richard Anthony Norris, age 71, of Bluffton, South Carolina, died Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Savannah Memorial Hospital hospice due to complications of esophageal cancer. 

Mr. Norris, known as "Rick", was born on January 29, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Earl and Virginia Norris. After graduating from Michigan State University, Rick served in the United States Navy as a Vietnam War era pilot-in-training. His father, Earl, was a WWII Navy pilot. His older brother Kenneth, also a Navy pilot, died in Vietnam. 

After the Navy, Rick worked for American Express a short time before starting a successful career in magazine publishing with Ziff Davis in New York City .  At Ziff Davis he became an admired Publisher of several business-to-business travel magazines and eventually became Publisher of Data Sources where he met his wife, Kim.  They were instantly inseparable, married in 1986 and had a very happy life together filled with love, great friends, travel, family and laughter. Rick had an entrepreneurial spirit and created Norris Associates in 2010.

Rick was known for his quick wit and ability to make us laugh.  He loved his Michigan State University Spartans, a dry vodka martini by a warm fire and conversation with friends and family.  As a younger man Rick loved golf, racquetball, tennis, fishing and, since living in South Carolina enjoyed kyacking on the May River.

In addition to his wife, Kim, Rick is survived by his daughters, Kelly Norris Taylor (Stephen) of Raleigh, NC; Carolyn Gamberoni of Clearwater, FL; and,  granddaughter Sarah Sandbach of New York City; and, his sisters Christine Ledergerber (Howard) of MI; Julie Noble of NC.   He is also survived by a daughter and son from a previous marriage, Karri and Kenneth Norris.

A memorial service to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the May River Chapel on Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, SC, to be immediately followed by a luncheon.
