Rita Carpenter Obituary

Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Rita Frattali Carpenter of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away on January 17, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. August Frattali and by her daughter Dr. Carol Frattali.

She is survived by her children Mary (and Curt) Harris of Bluffton, South Carolina; August (and Anne-Marie) Frattali of Ashburn, Virginia; Dr. Mark (and Denise) Frattali of Shavertown, Pennsylvania; Gina (and Dr. Harvey) Sherman of Potomac, Maryland; and Son-in-law Dr. Michael Kuzmik of McLean, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dr. Gregory Kuzmik, Sara Kuzmik (and Clay) Elliott, Ian (and Katy) Kuzmik, Austin (and Emily) Frattali, Anthony Frattali, Avery Frattali, Carrie Frattali, Nina Frattali, and Grace Frattali Sherman. Also dearest great grandchild Palmer Elliott along with many nieces and nephews.

Rita was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1927 by parents Antonio Bocchino and Mariannina Della Terza. She attended Marywood College in Scranton and was elected President of her sophomore class. She married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Dr. August Frattali, and raised their five children in Scranton.

Taking painting lessons throughout her life, she became an artist with recognition by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. She was an active parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton. She crocheted baby blankets distributed to hospitals throughout the country through Julie’s Mission. With many friends at The Hideout in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania and in Sun City Hilton Head, she enjoyed tennis and golf and was an avid bridge player. She played bridge at the Lakehouse in Sun City and hosted bridge in her home through most of last year.

She was a woman of uncommon wisdom, style and grace. Her love for God and for her family and friends was boundless. We rejoice and remain grateful for having shared her life. Her legacy will live through her children and grandchildren. Her light will shine forever.

A funeral mass will take place in the Bocchino and Frattali family church of St. Lucy’s in Scranton followed by chapel prayers and internment at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton on April 14, 2023.
