Robert Allen Pointon

Robert (Bob) A. Pointon, a resident of Bluffton, SC for 25 years died peacefully at age 89 at  Bloom Independent living.   He is preceded in his death by his wife of 45 years, Millie, and his parents  Jesse and Rachel Pointon.  Survived by children Kathy Wavra (Bill), Tom Kupp (Barbara), Scott Pointon, David Pointon (Mary Lou) Nancy Brasko,  Ed Kupp (Terry), and Karen Demeter, 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren along with his sisters, Barbara Collis and Ruth Reynolds.

Bob was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1931, graduated from Hamilton high school in 1950 and then Lafayette College with a degree in chemical engineering in 1954.   He went on to serve 4 years in the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Forrestal as an electrician's mate.  In 1958 Bob started his career with Public Service Electric and Gas, moving to Vice President in the gas works Division during his 33 year career.  Bob  married Mildred Kupp in 1975.  Millie and Bob moved to Bluffton in 1996 where they began a long and prosperous retirement until Millie’s death in October of 2020. 

Bob was a devoted member of the Church of the Cross where he served as a Vestry leader and as a docent for this historic church.  Bob was an avid golfer and could be found on area courses most days.   His devotion to church and golf was only surpassed by his love for Millie and their 7 children, grandkids and great grandkids.  

A memorial service and interment will be held for Bob on October 22nd, 1:00 pm at Church of the Cross, 110 Calhoun St, Bluffton SC, 29910.  In lieu of flowers please make any donations to the Church of the Cross.
