Robert “Bob” Bosselman, born June 23, 1940, left us on April 3, 2023. Bob lived a long and full life, and touched many hearts as a kind, caring and gentle soul. A loving husband to Rita for 50 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a loyal and wonderful friend with a great zest for life and a true appreciation for all it offered. Bob will always be remembered for his infectious smile, great sense of humor and affectionate hugs. He was “truly one of a kind, larger than life!”
Bob was born in Brooklyn NY, son of Madeline and Alfred Bosselman, where he and his siblings spent most of their childhood until his family moved to Hampton Bays NY in 1956. He met the love of his life, Rita in 1968, and they went on to marry in 1972. Bob and Rita lived 30 fulfilling years in Hampton Bays where they raised their children and developed many lasting friendships.
In his early years, he was proud of his work with the New York Stock Exchange and New York Telephone Company. He went on to have an accomplished career of 36 years with the Long Island Railroad as a Station Agent and Public Relations Speaker, retiring in 1996. Bob was a very driven and successful professional, developing his own businesses as a travel agent and income tax preparer, both which he continued until his passing.
As a very active member of society, Bob held many positions in several organizations and clubs. For several years he was Treasurer of the Southampton Town Conservative Party. Additionally, he was Chaplain for the Southampton (NY) Lodge of the BPO Elks. His greatest allegiance was to the Southampton Kiwanis Club, of which he held multiple terms as president. He later became the Lieutenant Governor of the Suffolk East Division of NY District of Kiwanis.
Bob and Rita fell in love with Bluffton SC and moved to The Crescent in 2002. He continued to give his time and dedication to many by serving on the Crescent POA Board as Social Director and Event Planner. He also organized the Crescent Friday Night Couples Golf and Dinner League. Bob also served as a board member of the Hilton Head Senior Men’s Golf Association (SMGA). He was honored to be a “greeter” with Rita at their church, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church for 20 years.
Bob got great joy in playing golf and traveling the world with Rita. He proudly maintained his memberships at the Southampton Golf Club and the Crescent Pointe Golf Club. Bob and Rita traveled the world extensively, his favorite trip being “The Holy Land”.
Bob is survived by his wife Rita.
