Roy Lawrence Holly

Roy L. Holly Jr., 76 of Bluffton SC, passed away Saturday March 11, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born in Corning NY in May 1946 and lived in Far Hills, Rahway, Lakewood, and Lanoka Harbor NJ until moving to Bluffton SC in 2013.

In 1969, Roy proudly served our country as a door gunner in the US Army in Vietnam. His tour yielded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Air Medal.

Upon his honorable discharge, Roy began his career as a Police Officer with the Nutley Police Department for two years and in 1972 became an officer with the Lakewood Township Police Department where he stayed until his retirement in 2000, followed by an additional 12 years with the Monmouth University Police Department reaching the rank of Corporal.

Roy enjoyed spending time with his labradoodle Buster, and was often seen taking long walks around the neighborhood to meet and visit with all of the neighbors. He also enjoyed playing cards with his poker buddies, gardening, and outdoor concerts.

Roy was predeceased by his parents Roy L. Holly Sr. and Francis C. Holly. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sharon, and his children Colleen Saunders (Johnny), Kevin Holly (Samantha), his sisters Loraine Howell & Rosemary Russell as well as many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Saul’s Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton SC 29910.

Funeral Service:  1:00 PM, Friday, March 17, 2023 at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. 

Inurnment:  10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort SC 29902.
