Sandra Thayer Gibson, 75, of Bluffton, SC passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Sandy was born in Utica, NY to Donald and Helen Thayer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and giving back to her community.
Sandy received an Education Bachelor’s Degree in business education at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and a Master of Science Degree in health care administration from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. She enjoyed a long career as a human resources executive, specializing in administration for large hospital and health care organizations in the Northeast and in Madison, Wisconsin. After retiring, Sandy focused her considerable talents on serving the community in various organizations as a volunteer and board member. She became an avid genealogy researcher, which led to her extensive involvement in the local chapters of several societies, including the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Colonial Dames XVII Century, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Daughters of the Union, the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, and the First Families of Massachusetts. Sandy served as registrar for the Emily Geiger Chapter of the DAR in Bluffton for several years, as well as the local chapters of two other societies. The Emily Geiger Chapter recently honored Sandy for her contributions via the Daughter’s Tribute in the DAR Memorial Garden in Washington, D.C.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Gibson; Daughter, Cary Gibson; Son, Michael Gibson; Grandchildren, Logan and Katherine Gibson; Sisters, Carol Thayer and Janice Jones; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Donald (Butch) Thayer.
A visitation and short service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 pm until the service begins at 5:30. A family service and burial will follow later in the month in Prospect, NY.
