Chef Saul Serrano of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2021 at the age of 37. Born October 27, 1983 in West Covina, California to Esperanza Andrade Serrano and Conrado Serrano, he was the youngest of four children. Saul was raised in La Puente, California where he embraced his cultural roots and developed a passion for food that took him around the world. After graduating from La Cordon Bleu, Los Angeles in 2004, Saul worked in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, traveled around New Zealand, and worked for the Ritz Carlton perfecting his craft. He eventually began his long career with Montage in Laguna Beach, California and finally held the title of Chef de Cuisine with Montage, Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina and The Executive Banquet Chef of the newly developing Pendry Natirar in New Jersey. In May 2021 Saul fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming the owner and operator of The Naked Pig food truck. The Naked Pig quickly became a regular site at breweries, festivals, and events throughout Bluffton, Hilton Head, Savannah and the surrounding area. Saul took pride in his, handmade tortillas, fresh ingredients, authentic dishes and always making his customers happy.
On October 29, 2010 Saul married the love of his life, Angela, and together they raised a beautiful daughter Hailey Serrano, who thought her daddy hung the moon and stars. When they settled in Bluffton, South Carolina in 2017, they knew not where this journey would take them, but Saul quickly became well loved throughout the community and had many friends and supporters.
Saul is survived by his wife Angela Arevalo Serrano, his daughter Hailey Serrano, his grandmother Alejandra Andrade, his mother Esperanza Andrade Serrano, his father Conrado Serrano, his siblings Conrad Serrano, Gerado Serrano, Adriana Serrano, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless family and friends.
Saul was an incredibly talented Chef, devoted husband, doting father, and adored son, who never met a stranger, and was always ready to share a cold beverage with his friends and family.
A funeral service to honor Saul Serrano will be held October 6, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Bluffton, South Carolina. For more information on events after the service, please follow The Naked Pig Tacos on Facebook and Instagram.
