Obituary

Sheila Christine Brownlie Gibbon, lyricist, award winning writer and creative director dies at the age of 86. Born in New York, Sheila was the daughter of John Brownlie and Agnes Elizabeth Murdoch Brownlie, both of Scotland.
She passed away peacefully at home in Hilton Head, South Carolina on May 17, 2023 surrounded by her family.  She leaves behind her husband and soulmate Tim, daughter Alix Skye Cameron Baer Bacon, and son Tristram Adam Osborne Baer, step-daughters Sarah, Julie, and Emma, and stepson James. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Daphne, Becky, Lilly, Logan, Evie, Rory, Ollie, Toby and Max. Sheila was predeceased by her brother Ian Gordon Murdoch Brownlie.
She graduated from Vassar and began her writing career as lyricist with United Artists, where she worked with her manager, Nat Shapiro, and composers such as Galt MacDermot and Michel Legrand. She then took her creative writing talent to the world of advertising as a copywriter and creative director. She worked for major advertising agencies in New York and London where she won numerous national and international awards including a CLIO.
She was loved by all who knew her. Her kindness, mentorship, intelligence and aura were appreciated by everyone. We have lost a very loving and special woman.
Grief is the price we pay for love, but it is worth it. Cherish the memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made at: www.hospicecarelc.org - who took care of her in her last few days.
