Obituary

On Friday, February 5, 2021, Stephen (Steve) E. Becker, loving father of three children, passed away suddenly at the age of 65 in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Steve was born on December 21, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA to Russell and Edmonda “Bunny” (Donovan) Becker. Steve attended grade school at Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Plymouth Meeting, PA and graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in 1973. He later graduated from Temple University with a degree in business administration. Steve was a senior health advisor specializing in life and health insurance and owned his own business for over 25 years, assisting numerous seniors and families.

On October 24, 1981, Steve married Alice Arnold (Stelter) and they raised three sons, Mark, Dale, and Brent. Steve and Alice lived in the suburban Philadelphia area before finally settling in Harleysville, PA. While in Harleysville, Steve was active in several organizations including the Lions Club, Harleysville Youth Baseball Association, and the Souderton Harleysville Youth Basketball Association. A life-long baseball umpire, Steve always took pride in the accuracy of his strike zone, even when it meant issuing walks to batters when his sons were on the mound.

Steve also loved animals and was a generous donor to various animal welfare organizations. A passionate Philadelphia sports fan his whole life, Steve was an ardent Phillies and Eagles fan and especially relished the Eagles victory over the Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl. Steve moved to Bluffton, South Carolina in 2008 where he partially retired and was active in several civic organizations, including the South Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Association.

Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Becker, his father, Russell Becker, and his mother, Edmonda (Donovan) Becker. He is survived by his three children, Mark Stephen Becker (Melissa) of Plantation, FL, Dale Becker (Meghan) of Needham, MA, and Brent Becker of Selinsgrove, PA and his grandson, Joseph Stephen Becker. He also leaves behind his siblings, Stacey Carter (Robert) of West Chester, PA, Megan Newman (Michael) of Schwenksville, PA, Sheila Young (Timothy) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Brian Becker of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Lisa Becker of Plymouth Whitemarsh, PA as well as several nieces and nephews.
