Thomas Cronin Obituary

Thomas P. Cronin of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away on March 24, 2024 at the age of 84. Born in 1939 and raised in Glenside, Pennsylvania, Tom was a 1958 graduate of Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Following high school graduation and, shortly after entering the working world, Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army. It was during this period when Tom also discovered his talent and passion for golf, which carried forward through his time of service, and would remain one of the greatest joys throughout his life.

After his time in the Army, the mid-1960’s is when Tom met and married the love of his life, Barbara Wiercinski, in Philadelphia. Tom and Barbara welcomed two children, Tim, and Kathleen, and relocated to the suburbs of New Jersey, where Tom would run his own building and remodeling business, Cronin Builders, for 25 years. In the mid-1990’s, Tom and Barbara relocated to Bluffton, South Carolina, and operated several Oreck vacuum stores in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. In the years that followed, Tom became a fixture in the Bluffton community, not only as the smiling face welcoming guests into one of the Oreck stores, but also through regular appearances on golf courses throughout the area, with the pinnacle having earned the title of Senior Men’s Club Champion at Hampton Hall Club in 2007.

Tom’s great love of golf was exceeded only by his even greater love for his family. His tireless dedication to his wife, children and extended family will remain his most lasting legacy, as will the pride he took in serving his country. In his golfing prime, Tom was a two handicap. However, as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and member of his community, his scorecard was beyond measure, and he will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Tom was predeceased by his love, Barbara, as well as his parents John and Anna Cronin, and his siblings John, Jr., Joan, Mary Louise, Catherine, Nancy, and Margaret (Peggy). He is survived by his children, Timothy Cronin of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Kathleen Cronin of Bluffton, South Carolina, son-in-law Andre Delbos, granddaughter Lilah Barret Delbos, and siblings James, William, Joseph, and twin brother Paul.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Chapel, Pinckney Colony Road,  Bluffton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Tom’s honor to the  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
