Tommie Lee McCallister, 85, died Monday, January 13, 2014 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville, SC.
He was born in Burroughs, GA on September 09, 1928 to the late Herman Earl McCallister and Elizabeth Seldon McCallister.
He was a retiree of CSX Transportation where he was employed for 46 1/2 years as a Signalman; US Army Veteran of Korea; member of Ridgeland Baptist Church and Bryan Lodge #303 F&AM in Richmond Hill, GA and a former Council member for the Town of Ridgeland having served 18 years. He also served as Police and Fire Commissioner as well as having served as Mayor Pro-tem.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Woods McCallister of Ridgeland, SC; sons, John D. Cook, III (Pam) of Ormond Beach, FL and Toronto, Canada; Michael Thomas McCallister (Kari) of Early Branch, SC; daughters, Linda C. Morris of Atlanta, GA; Mary Elizabeth Lindsay (Jim) of Hobe Sound, FL; brothers, Leo McCallister (Jan) of Washington State; sister, Helen Hunt of Rockingham, NC; seven grandchildren, Christina Nichole Guest, Dana Hinterlighter, Brooke Lofiego, Katie McCallister, Stephanie McCallister, Jessica Leigh Morris and Brian David Morris; six great grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Geffkin, Tommy, Hayden and Myah. He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl McCallister and sister, Betty Lou Jeffords.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Ridgeland Baptist Church with burial in The Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland SC.
