Virgil Howard (Jack) Obituary

On Saturday, August 15th, 2020 Virgil E. Howard (Jack) was called home at the age of 89. The world lost a great son, brother, husband, father, uncle and leader.

Virgil was born in Beckley West Virginia on September 1st, 1930. He enlisted in the military as young man. Virgil retired from the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was stationed at several bases around the world during his military and professional careers.

After his military career Virgil continued to serve his country by obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He went on to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). After his retirement, Virgil and Virginia settled in Sun City Hilton Head, Bluffton, South Carolina. He was active member of his community and was a member of the Sun City Senior Championship Travel Softball Team.

If you ask Virgil his greatest accomplishment, was marrying his wife Virginia of more than 40 years. It was love at first sight. Their love for travel lead them to live in Europe and throughout the United States.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Green and Ethel Howard and brother Charles and sister Glenna. He is survived by his wife Virginia Howard; sisters Lucille Peters and Helen Hogg. He is also survived by his children: Virgil Harris, Debra Lillback, Kirk Howard and stepson; Mark Walker. Several grandchildren: Jennifer Swanson; Matthew Harris; Priscilla Edwards; Cara Beth Lillback; Ashley Howard; Amy Howard; step-grandchildren: Alicia Ragoobar; Alex Walker; he also had eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, people wishing to honor Virgil's long life, please make a donation to your local charity supporting the research for Alzheimer's.
