William (Bill) Swain of Bluffton, SC, 78, passed away on March 8, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Maureen O’Hara, his daughters Terri Swain (Pete Hammer) of Colleyville, TX, Betsy Childers (Gene) of Austin, TX and Pam Bautista (Matt) of Hilton Head Island, SC; his siblings Jean MacLachlan, Peggy Casello, David Swain and Rita Kriley as well as 11 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a score of extended family and friends who were always greeted with his twinkling Irish eyes and positive attitude. Awaiting his arrival in heaven is his late wife, Jeanne Swain, his daughter Lauri Campbell and his siblings Paul Swain, Mary Leah Swain and Rose Marie Hogan, and other special friends he made along the way.
Bill grew up in the Butler, PA area. He found his love of all things mechanical early. He had an adventurous spirit that took his family to live in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Taiwan, Korea & Texas. After a successful DuPont career, they found roots in SC where he helped start up The UPS Store as well as his own tool and die business.
He was known as someone to lend a hand or an ear and could fix literally anything. He was an avid golfer & enjoyed playing at different courses around the country. The world will never be the same for those of us who knew and loved him. But his lessons “anything worth doing is worth doing right,’ “being a leader and not a follower” and his can-do attitude are forever imprinted on those whose lives he touched.
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again; may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Cheers to a life well lived and for another angel to watch over us.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. At Bill’s request, there will be a family only, grave-side service.
