Winifred Fenner-Taylor was born in Summit, NJ. She graduated from the University of
Rochester in 1971 with a degree in Nursing. She lived in eight states, NJ, NY, Vermont,
SC, NC, Florida, Michigan, and Illinois. She was a Public Health Nurse, a Labor and
Delivery Nurse, a Newborn and NICU Nurse, and she worked in the Burn Unit at Loyola
University in Chicago. In South Carolina, Winifred worked at Beaufort Jasper
Comprehensive Health Clinic and Hilton Head Hospital in Labor and Delivery.
Winifred was a Believer, and her passion in life was service. Winifred went on medical
mission trips to Kenya in the Rift Valley, Haiti after the earthquake of 2010, Kosovo, El
Salvador, Pittsburgh in the homeless camps, and she helped renovate a fellowship hall
in Belize in 2008. She went on two disaster relief trips with Samaritan’s Purse: a rebuild
after flooding in Andrew, SC, and clean up after Hurricane Matthew in Bluffton,
Hardeeville, and HHI. She was a volunteer with Family Promise, My Father’s House,
Second Helpings, Good News Club, God’s Goods, Vacation Bible, Princess Warriors, HUG
Haiti Under God, Hand of Hope Ministries, CRU Ministries working with Parris Island
recruits, and she was part of the core team for the Saturday Night Ministry “Come As
You Are.”
Winifred also volunteered for Cancer Support Group making home visits to newly
diagnosed cancer patients, she was a leader with Al-Anon, and she helped students with
math and reading at Hardeeville Elementary School with Ms. Robinson’s 2nd grade class.
She is survived by her husband Michael Lynn Taylor, her children Matthew Caputo and
Bethany Caputo, her daughter-in-law Dannette Mehalik, her step-children Christina and
Doug Relyea and Matthew and Staci Taylor and their children Christopher and Liam
Taylor, her sister Christina Bates and her nephews Taylor and Traci Bates and Tucker and
Rachel Bates.
Winifred’s spirit of faith, tenacity, and courage will be deeply missed, but we know she
is already on to her next mission!
The Celebration of Life Service for Winifred will be held on Friday, January 10 at the
Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC at 2pm. Flowers are welcome, but in lieu of flowers,
please also consider donations in memory of Winifred Fenner-Taylor to Samaritan’s
Purse.
